If you haven’t done days 1 and 2 yet, do them before going on to today’s challenge. Most people do ministry on Sunday, so they either review or plan what they’re going to teach or how they’re going to minister on Saturday. That’s why I chose today for the next challenge.
Get a Word from the Lord
As ministers, we all need a word from the Lord. I’m not talking about prophecy or a word of knowledge necessarily although sometimes God speaks through those gifts. Sometimes it will be a small still voice directing you.
First we need to receive a word from God about our ministry for the year. My word for this year is intentional. God has been speaking to my heart that I’ve allowed circumstances to interfere with what God has directed me to do, and I need to become more intentional. This is the time to find out the word God wants you to focus on this year.
Then we need to receive a word from God every time we minister. Whether or not you use a curriculum or a theme, you need a word to deliver from God every time you’re in a position to minister. That means sometimes you’ll have to change your program and teach something different, sing different songs, or change the order of service. If that’s the case, do it. Otherwise, you will become a performer rather than an anointed servant of God.
How to Receive a Word from God:
Ask God. Many people fret about how to receive a word from God when the truth is He wants you to know what’s He’s up to in your life and ministry. If you ask Him, He will give it to you.
Matthew 7:7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Be open to what God says. Some people call this knowing in your knower. Basically look for God to answer and be ready to receive it.
Don’t limit God. He may speak through the Bible or while you are in prayer. He might show you something while you are studying for a message. Or He may use a sermon or something someone says. He might even speak through a word of prophecy. Let God use whatever method He desires.
Recognize the Voice of God. When we want to hear God’s voice, we need to listen with our spirits, not with our ears or minds. Every Christian can learn to recognize God’s voice. The more you determine to do this, the easier it will become. Ask God to help you know which is His voice and which are your thoughts.
