Plan What You Will Do this Year
Today’s challenge is to plan what you will do this year. At this point, don’t get into the details of what you need to do. This is a big picture assignment.
Step 1: Start by digging out your vision statement and mission statement. Read them through a few times.
Step 2: Write down where you need to focus your energies this year. Pray and ask God to show you the path you should take. Although you’ll want to do things that cover every area of your mission and vision statements, you may decide to focus on one thing. After prayer, you might decide to focus on reaching the lost or discipling the students you have. Or you might want to focus on missions or teaching the basics. Write that one focus on an index card and place it where you constantly see it.
Step 3: Get out your “Dream Big” list of goals. You might want to put some of them on hold until later, but there might be something on there that fits with your focus for this year. Write it on a piece of paper with your focus written on the top.
Step 4: Go through the programs and activities you already do. Do they have a purpose? Are they effective? Do they fit with your vision and mission statements? Get rid of all programs that have a no to any of these questions. Write the programs that are left on your “focus” paper.
Step 5: What could you do to emphasize your focus this year? For instance, if your focus is evangelism, you might want to teach more about salvation and witnessing. You also might want to have an outreach this year. Write those things down.
Step 6: Now you have a list of activities and programs with an intentional purpose for this year.
